Warrack Golf Bowls 21 Up result known soon

WARRACK Golf’s 21 up competition is close to a finish with Terry Sanders securing a final four spot after his win over John Barbetti.

By Andrew Ward

Terry was quick out of the blocks, winning the first four ends after a 3 shot deficit to John. Eight shots to love before John started his run, Terry on his game with lovely draw shots to the kitty. Picking up a four then a three on ends nine and ten, he shot away to a 16 to 2 lead, then finishing it off with two singles and a three on the last end. John rallied a bit to win four of the last five ends with seven shots to four, but the game was all over for him. Well done Terry winning 21 to 12.

A forfeit by Warren Perris because of his Vic Open Bowls Tour to Bill Russ gives Bill the chance to win this event. Bill will play Terry in a Semi Final coming up.

The other lucky recipient to a forfeit is Graham Clayton, who moves into a third round match against Brian Gunn, with Roger Perris unable to play due to work commitments away. The winner of this plays the winner of the match up between our Pennant side leaders, Barry Holland and Graeme White to finish the third round. So a final four will be interesting as to who can claim the event.

The Club’s annual Two Bowl Triples Tournament is scheduled for Saturday May 3rd, with a flyer due to be sent out soon. Three players a side, two bowls each, three games on the day, with all winners of a game receiving a monetary prize, plus a Winners and Runners up prizes. Mainly sponsored by the Warrnambool Bowls Club, plus local sponsors to make it an interesting and popular event, with this format not done by any other club in the district.

The Minyip Bowls club held a Fours event at their grass greens on Tuesday, with a local side from Golf of The three Gunns, Booza, Frosty and Chris, along with Mick Gunn Marchment to make up the Gunners. No success for the team, but an enjoyable outing on the day.

First game of 12 ends on a beautiful and lovely day for lawn bowls, the 12 teams from across the North Central, North Wimmera and Wimmera struggled with their weight on the slow greens, with most bowls being a little short. Things got a bit better as the day went on, with the better teams finding that weight reqL ired for a win. Donald Golf team, skippered by Stuart Hollis were successful with three wins and plenty of shots up from the runners up, also on three wins.

Great to see a relic of the Minyip Bowls Club in Bob McFarlane keeping a watchful eye on proceedings, after a recent birthday, and as the games went on, catching up on old rivals from the bygone days and enjoying a talk with his past opponents. Glad to see you looking well Bob.

The green, although looking the best it’s been in years across the whole area, played very slow all day, making it tough for the players to draw a close bowl. It quickened a little later in the afternoon, and congratulations to Bruce Midgely and the ground staff on its presentation. It does look a picture. Perhaps Bob can speed it up a bit. Ha Ha.

A few of Golf’s members are off for a week of bowls at the Warrnambool Bowls Club to test their skills against big fields in a pairs and fours event. Prizemoney of $30,000 is up for grabs on the six days of competition. Recommended to all bowlers for their bucket list to appreciate the game of bowls in this format.

Golf Bowls will end the season with a presentation night in the coming weeks in what was a successful year for the popular club, claiming both premierships in both Divisions, and a top job by President Dawn Walton.

Good bowling and good luck.
