Tight battles define round 13
Round 13 of the the Horsham Badminton Association winter teams competition continued on Monday August 17, with little separating all matches at Horsham College Gymnasium.
A grade
Ravenclaw versus Gryffindor:
Amidst several three-game contests, it was Ravenclaw who proved just a little too good over Gryffindor.
Brad Harberger was a standout for the winning side, winning all three of his doubles matches.
Ravenclaw's Clayton and Lakshdeep Chawla, and Gryffindor's Paul Robertson and Amy Barton played out a great match, with the Ravenclaw pair prevailing 21-18 18-21 21-18.
Despite the team loss, Josh Dunn won the singles match for Gryffindor, defeating Ishan 21-14 21-11.
RESULT: Ravenclaw d Gryffindor 6 sets to 4, 13 games to 12, 456 points to 470.
Slytherin versus Hufflepuff:
Hufflepuff had a strong performance throughout the contest to continue their winning streak, overcoming a spirited Slytherin team.
Mark Ngoi and Jinu Anthony were very impressive for Hufflepuff, winning all three doubles matches.
Ben Sawyer was again impressive for the losing side, winning all of his matches. This included a thrilling doubles match alongside Lisa Heal, as they defeated Harshdeep Singh and Ellen Jalil 21-12, 17-21 21-17.
RESULT: Hufflepuff d Slytherin 6 sets to 4, 13 games to 8, 392 points to 411.
B grade
Rapunzel versus Moana:
Moana bounced back from their loss last week with a hard-fought victory over Rapunzel.
Annabel Nuske and Jackson Hams were excellent for the winning side, taking out all three of their doubles matches.
Despite the team loss, Helen Francisco ended the clash on a high note for Rapunzel, overcoming Whitney Sullivan 15-11 16-14 in the singles match.
RESULT: Moana d Rapunzel 6 sets to 4, 14 games to 10, 329 points to 300.
Cinderella versus Aladdin:
With many close contests throughout the tie, Aladdin prevailed over a competitive Cinderella side.
Alan Tomy was integral to Aladdin's victory, winning all three of his doubles matches, while Noime impressed for Cinderella, winning all of their matches.
Already holding the lead, Aden Merrett secured the victory for Aladdin with a 15-13 15-12 singles victory over Carolyn Beggs.
RESULT: Aladdin d Cinderella 6 sets to 4, 14 games to 9, 305 points to 279.
