Natimuk United Football Netball Club are set to field its first-ever women’s football side in the 2026 season.

The club intends to join the Wimmera league’s female competition, which held its inaugural season this year.

Natimuk youngster Teilah Britten ignited the push for the side, motivated to bring women’s football to the club after previously playing with the club’s under 14 side.

“I used to play with the boys in juniors,” Britten said.

“I wanted to get this up and running as I used to play football with the boys at Natimuk and want to play there again.

“We’ve always had a lot of females playing the under 14s.

“I think there’s been a few people thinking about it (forming a women’s team) but no one actually doing anything about it till now.”

Taking the initiative, Britten approached the club’s committee about forming a team, receiving its support to start recruiting.

Helping Britten recruit in the offseason will be head coach Nathan Jenkins.

Excited at the chance to grow the women’s game in the region, Jenkins is encouraging existing and new players to join the team.

“AFLW has become so popular and everyone’s got to start at some point,” Jenkins said.

“It’s not too late for women who missed out on playing junior footy because it wasn’t around and who have been interested in trying

“This is a great opportunity because we’re starting fresh.

“We’re going to take anyone who wants to come over – we’re definitely not expecting the girls to come out and be Erin Phillips.

“Even if they can’t kick yet, we’re still happy to have them out there and have a go; it’s a very inclusive club.”

With Horsham, Minyip Murtoa and Laharum making up the 2025 women’s Wimmera league football teams, Jenkins says the club can attract interested players from surrounding areas.

“Obviously we’ll be under the banner of Natimuk United Football Netball Club but we’re also looking for girls who may be based in Dimboola, Pimpinio and Quantong and places like that as well.”

Anyone interested in joining Natimuk United's women's side for 2026 can contact Teilah Britten or Nathan Jenkins on Facebook.
