Club secretary Jan John said the CDS reverse vending machine, located at the Lions Depot in Hindmarsh Street, had raised more than $10,000 since it was installed last year.

“We would like to invite any local community groups to participate in manning the site, and in return receive a share of the proceeds,” Ms John said.

“It is important the money goes back into the community - that is what it is all about.”

The Dimboola Lions Club has provided recycling options for the town for many years and hopes more volunteers will take up the opportunity and keep the trend going.

“We still have the weekly paper collection, the cardboard collection, scrap metal and bulka-bag recycling,” Ms John said.

“However, like many other service organisations, some additional volunteer assistance is required to keep this going into the future.”

Club president Rod McKenzie said volunteers did not need any special knowledge or skills, and that training would be provided.

“Manning the vending machine seven days a week requires volunteers who are prepared to keep the machine and its surroundings clean, change over the collection bins, assist customers and deal with faults," he said.

Ms John said looking after the site was not an onerous task, and she had often worked on her own.

She said the Lions Club would soon be distributing an Application for Funding form to local groups, for those who would like to apply for a grant.

Any groups or clubs who are interested in volunteering some time at the depot can contact Ms John on 0408 397 020.
