Horsham Lawn progress to grand final
Horsham Lawn will meet Central Park in the Central Wimmera Tennis Association pennant grand final after overcoming St Michaels in the preliminary finals on Saturday March 14.
The opening four doubles games saw Horsham Lawn establish a 3-1 set lead.
August Koch and Jae McGrath defeated Steve Schultz and Archer Reading 8-6; D’Artagnan Walls and Lachlan Punchard defeated Eli Bailey and Peter Hayes 8-0; and Tahlia Thompson and Cherie Wood defeated Mia Rees and Kassie Peachey 8-4; while for St Michaels, Violet McGennisken and Jess Cannane overcame Ella Thompson and Lydi Boyd 8-7.
Both sides won two sets each in the singles rubbers.
For St Michaels, Seteve Schultz defeated August Koch 8-3 and Eli Bailey defeated D’Artagnan Walls 8-5.
For Horsham Lawn, Tahlia Thompson defeated Mia Rees 8-0, and Ella Thompson defeated Violet McGennisken 8-4.
Horsham Lawn then won four out of the final six remaining doubles sets to secure the overall victory.
Jae McGrath and Lachlan Punchard defeated Archer Reading and Peter Hayes 8-4; August Koch and Lachlan Punchard just overcame Steve Schultz and Peter Hayes 8-7; Graeme Wood and Jae McGrath defeated Eli Bailey and Archer Reading 8-3; and Ella Thompson and Cherie Wood defeated Violet McGennisken and Kassie Peachey 8-6.
For St Michaels, Kassie Peachey and Jess Cannane defeated Cherie Wood and Lydi Boyd 8-7; and Mia Rees and Jess Cannane overcame Tahlia Thompson and Lydi Boyd 8-7.
Overall, Horsham Lawn won 9-5 (101-74), setting up a grand final against the undefeated Central Park.
Along with all other senior grand finals, the matchup will take place from 1.30pm at Haven Tennis Club this Saturdaym March 21.
In A special, Horsham Lawn O’Connor will meet Central Park in the grand final after a decisive preliminary final win over Horsham Lawn Dorman.
In A grade, Central Park progressed to the grand final, where they will play Haven Red following a hard-fought victory over Horsham Lawn Tigers.
In B special, Central Park’s close win over Horsham Lawn Savage will see them take on Laharum.
The junior open, section 1 and 2 boys and section 1 and 2 girls will all play their grand finals at Haven from 8.30am this Saturday.
In the junior open division, Central Park White will go up against Central Park Blue; section 1 boys has Haven taking on Horsham Lawn Gold; Horsham Lawn Gold take on Horsham Lawn Green in section 2 boys; section 1 girls will see Horsham Lawn White face Horsham Lawn Gold; and section 2 girls will see Natimuk Blue take on Horsham Lawn Red.
The section 3 boys' and section 4 girls' grand finals will be played at Central Park from 9am, with Horsham Lawn Gold meeting Horsham Lawn Green in the section 3 boys and Horsham Lawn taking on Haven in section 4 girls.
The match play section 5 and 6 grand finals take place at Haven on Friday March 20 from 5.30pm.
Central Park White meet Homers Red in match play section 5, and in section 6, Horsham Lawn Green take on Horsham Lawn Gold.
