Horsham City midweek pennant champs
Horsham City have claimed the Wimmera Playing Area division one midweek pennant title, narrowly defeating Nhill in the grand final at Dimboola on Tuesday February 24.
In division two, Horsham Golf proved too strong for Serviceton.
In rink one of division one, Horsham City’s team of Kevin Gepp, Hux Mitchell and Trevor Hamilton, skippered by Graham McDonald, defeated Nhill’s Glenda Pola, Colleen Dickinson and Janette Gebert, skippered by Barry Schultz, 26-21.
Horsham City also won rink two 27-21, as Betty Cozens, Maureen Petschel, John Lehmann and skipper Kevin Clyne defeated Jennifer Blackwood, Margaret Morrison, Ray Olney and skipper Pamela Cramer.
Nhill’s rink three team closed the gap with a 28-19 win, as the team of Helen McLean, Mary Waugh and Shaun McDonald, skippered by Ivan Reichelt, defeated Horsham City’s Marie Lehmann, Derek Ballinger and William Hogan, skippered by Duncan Bottoms.
But Horsham City took an overall 72-70 win to be crowned champions.
Division two saw Horsham Golf comfortably defeat Serviceton 74-27.
Horsham Golf’s rink one team, skippered by Murray Heard, defeated Darren Merrett’s rink 31-10.
Rink two saw Ken McClelland’s Horsham Golf team win 43-17 over Serviceton’s rink two team, skippered by Darryl Grosser.
The weekend pennant grand finals will take place at Sunnyside this Saturday, with Horsham Golf going up against Horsham City in division one, while Nhill and Horsham Golf have teams matching up in each of division two and three.
