Hornets host Colac in round six CBL action
The men’s and women’s Horsham Hornets teams will return to Horsham Basketball Stadium this Saturday as they host the Colac Kookas in round six of the Country Basketball League.

The men’s and women’s Horsham Hornets teams will return to Horsham Basketball Stadium this Saturday as they host the Colac Kookas in round six of the Country Basketball League.
Playing after the Intersport Horsham Junior Classic Basketball Tournament games, the Lady Hornets’ game will commence from 6pm, where they will hope to improve upon their 81-55 loss to the Kookas last round.
The visitors are currently second on the ladder with a 4-2 record, while the Hornets are yet to register a win in the 2025 season.
Jordyn Burke, coach of the Hornets women’s team, spoke after last week’s loss to Warrnambool, acknowledging the team has plenty of improvement in them.
“We didn’t start well against Colac, but I thought we responded well after that,” Burke said.
“We had plenty of opportunities, but our field goal percentage was lacking.”
Despite the team’s struggles, Burke is pleased with the side’s spirit, believing a win will come if the development and belief continue.
“They’re intensity in their effort and their desire to compete, that's never in question,” Burke said.
“It's just those growing pains with getting experience and running offences and executing.
“We’ll continue to bounce back, and I keep telling the girl that it’s (a win) coming.”
At 8pm, the men’s side will hope to continue their winning streak, having won three straight after losing their opening two games at the start of the season.
In what coach Scott Benbow said was the team’s best performance of the season so far, the Hornets defeated Colac 98-79 last round, but expected the 3-3 Kookas to pose a bigger challenge this weekend.
“Colac have seen us now,” Benbow said.
“They're going to have a plan of how they want to play us now, and we've seen them, so we'll try and work on a couple of improvements.
“We’ll be in front of our home crowd, so we don't want to disappoint either.”
Benbow knows the Hornets have more to give after their fast improvement from early in the season, including their three-point shooting.
“I think there's shooting to come, particularly with an outfit like ours,” Benbow said.
“We don’t want to rely on our shooting too much, but when you have guys like Mitch Martin and Levi Munyard really feeling it, we’re going to try and give them the ball because they can really light it up.”
