Warrack Eagles star Sam Hanna has capped off a stellar debut season, taking home the club’s senior best and fairest award after polling in 15 of 16 games.

Charlie Penny was also recognised for his efforts during the year, earning himself best and fairest runner-up award.

Hanna, who joined the club from Gumeracha in the Hills Football League this season, was among best on ground in an incredible 15 of the 16 games he played this year.

Although he admits he had a good beginning of the season, niggles and an injury crept into the final half of the year.

"As the season went on, my body started struggling with niggles and a foot problem, which then meant I was playing forward a lot more," explained Hanna.

And despite his arrival at the club only being a short time ago, Hanna said he was driven during the season to get the team back on the list of winners.

He said it was also important to ensure the club's youngsters had good leadership around them, and he enjoyed seeing them develop.

"A highlight was definitely seeing how much the club means to everyone and celebrating a good win," Hanna said.

Hanna was surprised by his win, noting that the league, in general, is of a good standard of country footy.

"I felt like I was a good chance (at winning the club best and fairest) but then again there were definitely some performances from players throughout the season that could have pipped me," he said.

He attributes the win to his preference for staying reasonably fit to cover the ground and his versatility.

"I think I can play multiple positions and also over my career I have played with some high-quality players that I have learnt from," he reflected.

As for next year, Hanna has already established the goal: to help the Eagles climb back up the ladder.
