Hammerstein dominant
In what has been a very tough time for the Hammerstein family with the sad passing of Doug Hammerstein.
The team, with the help of close friends Darren Petersen and Aroha Hemingway, tasted victory at both of last week’s meetings, including a kennel quinella.
Other locals to lead in winners were Garry George (Beulah), Heather Baxter (Murtoa) and the Fullerton team (Redcliffs).
Is He Lucky and Imposter kicked off the week running first and third for the Hammerstein team.
Jumping from the inside draw, Lucky flew the lids and was never headed, absolutely romping away to win by almost seven lengths in a flying 23:11sec best of the day time, with kennel mate Imposter holding on well for third.
On Tuesday, it was litter brother, Is He Happy, who landed the prize, jumping from the wide alley. Happy crossed the field, opening up a nice break, turning for home.
Kennel mate Imposter challenged strongly, but Happy held him at bay and stopped the clock in 23:53sec, one length in front of Imposter.
Reality Pie then gave Garry George success over the 485m journey, jumping well from box three.
Reality Pie was forced to concede the early lead but produced a railing masterclass through the turn and levelled up and went away to a comfortable victory in 27:71sec.
Dash Express then won the mixed grade event over the 410m journey for the Fullerton team.
Midfield early Dash railed well to straighten on terms with the early leaders. Dash then displayed his strength, going to the line as an easy winner in 23:41sec.
Diamantina Jade then struck for Murtoa local Heather Baxter and her trusty offsider Molly Parfett-Oliver.
Settling third early, Jade railed through hard to take the lead, bursting through the corner, she fought off the challenges down the straight to win by over a length in 23:77sec.
