Central Park, Horsham Lawn continue strong starts
Central Park and Horsham Lawn have strengthened their position in the top two of the Central Wimmera Tennis Association pennant competition with victories in round five.
At Kalkee, Central Park defeated the home side 10-4 to remain undefeated.
The opening four sets of doubles fixtures saw an even start between the two sides.
For Kalkee, Jordan Friberg and Luke Byrne overcame Matt Jones and Frazer Shurdington in a thrilling 8-7 encounter, and Aiden Richardson and Jeff Friberg defeated Harry Allan and Reece Harman 8-4.
For Central Park, Willow Sainsbury and Macey Mayberry beat Meaghan Pohlner and Emily Polack 8-2, and Sienna Nitschke and Victoria Brown defeated Anna Exell and Keeley Schultz, also 8-2.
Central Park dominated the four singles matches, as Matt Jones defeated Jordan Friberg 8-2, Harry Allan beat Aiden Richardson 8-0, Willow Sainsbury defeated Meaghan Pohlner 8-1, and Sienna Nitchke defeated Anna Exell 8-0.
In the last six doubles matches, Kalkee produced two wins, as Luke Byrne and Jeff Friberg defeated Frazer Shurdington and Reece Harman 8-5, while Jordan Friberg and Jeff Friberg beat Matt Jones and Reece Harman 8-3.
Central Park secured the victory by winning four of the last six matches, as Macey Maybery and Victoria Brown just scraped by Emily Polack and Keeley Schultz 8-7, Willow Sainsbury and Victoria Brown defeated Meaghan Pohlner and Keeley Schultz 8-5.
Harry Allan and Frazer Shurdington beat Aiden Richardson and Luke Byrne 8-2, and Sienna Nitschke and Macey Maybery defeated Anna Exell and Emily Polack 8-5.
Playing away, Horsham Lawn proved too strong for St Michaels as they prevailed with a 11-3 win.
Horsham Lawn won three of the four opening doubles games, as August Koch and Graeme Wood defeated Eli Bailey and Nick Robertson 8-4, Tahlia Thompson and Gemma Walker overcame Mia Rees and Kassie Peachey 8-6.
Meanwhile, Lydi Boyd and Maree Thompson beat Violet McGennisken and Barb Crough 8-2, while Peter Hayes and Chris Ellis defeated Lachlan Punchard and Shane Gillespie 8-6 to register St Michaels’ first set win.
Horham Lawn proceeded to win three of the four singles fixtures, as Lachlan Punchard defeated Peter Hayes 8-6, Tahlia Thompson beat Mia Rees 8-2, and Lydi Boyd defeated Violet McGennisken 8-1, while St Michaels’ Eli Bailey defeated August Koch 8-5.
Horsham Lawn dominated the remaining doubles matches, as Graeme Wood and Shane Gillespie defeated Nick Robertson and Chris Ellis in a challenging 8-7 set, Gemma Walker and Maree Thompson overcame Kassie Peachey and Barb Crough 8-6.
August Koch and Shane Gillespie defeated Eli Bailey and Chris Ellis 8-3, Tahlia and Maree Thompson defeated Mia Rees and Barb Crough 8-3, and Lydi Boyd and Gemma Walker overcame Violet McGennisken and Kassie Peachey 8-5.
Peter Hayes and Nick Robertson gave St Michaels their third set victory as they defeated Lachlan Punchard and Graeme Wood 8-5.
In other senior results, Central Park and Haven Red could not be separated via set wins (6-6) in their A special clash, but Central Park defeated Haven Red by three games (68-65).
