Central Park dominate senior semifinals

The Central Wimmera Tennis Association semifinals got underway last week, where Central Park prevailed in each of A special, A grade and B special.

A forfeit and rain cancellation saw no round 16 pennant games proceed, while five junior semifinal matches were not completed because of the weather.

The winners of Semifinal 1 for each grade have advanced to the grand final, while the winners of Semifinal 2 will play the losers of Semifinal 1 in the preliminary finals.

In A Special, Central Park won a thriller over Horsham Lawn O’Connor to advance to the grand final.

Both sides won seven sets apiece, with Central Park winning 92-85.

Lawn O’Connor took an early lead in the opening four doubles sets, as Daniella Gillespie and Paige Thompson defeated Eve Wear and Paula Davis 8-6; Maree thompson and Luisa Boddi defeated Misha Wear and Sharon Clough 8-5; and Shane Gillespie and Shane McGrath overcame Yassasri Sumanapala and Rod Shurdington 8-6; while Central Park’s Shaun Alexander and David Wear defeated Dylan Thompson and Brett Thompson 8-1.

Central Park then won three out of four singles rubbers, as Shaun Alexander won an 8-7 thriller over Dylan Thompson; Eve Wear defeated Daniella Gillespie 8-1; Misha Wear defeated Maree Thompson 8-5; while Lawn O’Connor’s Shane Gillespie defeated Yassasri Sumanapala 8-4.

In the remaining doubles fixtures, Central Park took three wins as David Wear and Rod Shurdington defeated Brett Thompson and Shane McGrath 8-6; Shaun Alexander and Ros Shurdington defeated Dylan Thompson and Shane McGrath 8-4; and Misha Wear and Paula Davis defeated Maree and Paige Thompson 8-5.

For Lawn O’Connor, Paige Thompson, and Luisa Boddi overcame Paula Davis and Sharon Clough 8-7; Daniella Gillespie and Luisa Boddi defeated Eve Wear and Sharon Clough 8-6; and Shane Gillespie and Brett Thompson defeated Yassasri Sumanapala and David Wear 8-2.

Horsham Lawn Dorman will meet Lawn O’Connor in the preliminary finals after they defeated Brimpaen 9-5.

Both teams were level after the opening four doubles sets. For Brimpaen, Hettie French and Ebony Dunn defeated Sienna Wood and Chloe Reinheimer 8-5; Luke and Ben Dunn defeated Jake Maher and Andrew Dorman 8-1; while for Lawn Droman, Joel Boyd and Mitchell Fromm defeated Peter Brennan and Alex Dunn 8-3; and Hailey Yorke and Pauline Amos defeated Courtney and Elly Dunn 8-3.

Lawn Dorman then won three out of the four singles rubbers, as Sienna Wood narrowly defeated Hettie French 8-7; Hailey Yorke defeated Courtney Dunn 8-4; Joel Boyd defeated Peter Brennan; while for Brimpaen, Luke Dunn defeated Jake Maher 8-1.

Lawn Dorman then secured the win by winning four out of the remaining six doubles sets, as Mitchell Fromm and Andrew Dorman defeated Alex and Ben Dunn 8-5; Joel Boyd and Andrew Dorman defeated Peter Brennan and Ben Dunn 8-2; Sienna Wood and Pauline Amos defeated Hettie French and Elly Dunn 8-6; and Hailey Yorke and Chloe Reinheimer just overcame Courtney and Ebony Dunn 8-7.

For Brimpaen, Ebony and Elly Dunn defeated Chloe Reinheimer and Pauline Amos 8-1; and Luke and Alex Dunn defeated Jake Maher and Mitchell Fromm 8-3.
