THE Horsham Rural City Council is inviting the community to take part in this year’s Australia Day Awards by nominating a citizen or event within the region deserving of recognition.

Acting mayor Cr Brian Klowss said there is so much to celebrate in the community, and when you stop and look at everything that has happened this year, the events, fundraisers, grassroots projects and achievers going about their business quietly - it fills him with pride to be part of the place.

"It’s that incredible sense of community that defines who we are," he added.

The Australia Day Awards honour groups and individuals who have made a lasting and meaningful impact on the Horsham region, and nominations are now open for the following:

• Community Event of the Year

Nominees must be Australian citizens, and must either live, work or volunteer in the Horsham municipality.

Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year awards are for individuals who have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over several years.

The Community Event of the Year award will go to the group/organiser who has staged the most outstanding community event during the year.

“We all know someone who goes above and beyond - whether it’s a volunteer, a mentor, or someone passionate about making a difference,” Cr Klowss said.

“Now’s the time to shine a spotlight on them.”

Nomination forms are available online or in hard copy at the Civic Centre, and submissions close Friday, November 21.

Award recipients will be announced and celebrated at the Australia Day celebration on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Sawyer Park, Horsham.
